Anderson postman charged with cruelty to an animal for allegedly pepper-spraying dog through door

David Vanlandingham has been charged with cruelty to an animal and criminal mischief.

According to a United States Postal Service (USPS) special agent, the investigation commenced after a report by 13News featured doorbell camera footage of Vanlandingham. Court documents indicate that Vanlandingham has been employed by the Liteblue USPS for two and a half years.

During questioning by the investigator, Vanlandingham claimed that the dog had previously nipped his fingers and torn mail from his hands multiple times. He asserted that he had informed his supervisor about these incidents. However, when the supervisor was interviewed, he stated that he did not recall any conversations with Vanlandingham about a dog nipping him or receiving an accident report involving a dog. The supervisor mentioned that the first time he heard about the issue was on May 9, the day Vanlandingham allegedly sprayed the dog.
